Rehoming Resources

The Wayne County Humane Society is an independent, non-profit animal shelter located in Wooster, Ohio. As a non-profit, WCHS depends on the support of generous donors and volunteers to ensure it is able to continue its mission. We are extremely grateful for the support we receive from the community.

Our Mission is to...

  •    Find committed, permanent homes for companion animals in the community.

  •    Measurably reduce companion animal overpopulation.

  •    Educate and promote humane values.

Our Core Values are...

We will maintain a place of safety for companion animals in our community, providing quality veterinary care and spay/neuter services before placing them into permanent homes.

We will not euthanize adoptable companion animals. We believe humane euthanasia is a last resort to end an animal's suffering or to ensure public safety and welfare. We will not allow terminally sick or badly injured companion animals to die painful deaths. Our compassion for companion animals will not allow us to keep an animal endlessly in a cage without hope of release, nor will we release animals which we know are dangerous or diseased.

We will play an active role in the prevention of cruelty to companion animals by nourishing the relationship between companion animals and humans through education and community outreach.

WCHS is a limited intake facility. Intake capacity depends on available shelter space and financial resources. We accept stray cats found in Wooster, Ohio and Orrville, Ohio and the surrounding Wayne County, Ohio area as capacity allows. We accept owner surrenders of pets as shelter capacity allows. If you have questions about a stray cat or an owner surrender, please call us (330) 262-0152.

Please help us continue our mission by making a donation of funds, supplies, or your time.
