Pet Care

The Wayne County Humane Society recognizes many reliable resources for pet care information.  Aside from the pet care tips that can be found online or through other forms of media, always consider contacting your local veterinarian for professional guidance on how to best care for your pet.

Resources for Re-Homing Cats and Dogs

  • Consider training before re-homing a pet with behavioral problems. The WCHS staff would be happy to advise you regarding most feline and basic canine issues (at no cost).

Here are a few local animal trainers:

  • Dogs with Maggie, Wooster, 330-473-8273
  • Victory Tails Dog Training, Mansfield, 419-631-3786
  • Lorenzo’s Dog Training, Akron, 866-436-4959
  • Gold Star Dog Training, Medina, 330-721-6556
  • Obedient Dogs and More, Medina, 440-567-1082
  • Katie’s Ark Animal Training, Medina, 330-667-2607
  • Medina County SPCA, Seville, 330-723-7722
  • Spay or neuter your cat and keep it as an outside pet if not declawed and temperament allows.  We can provide you with a list of low-cost spay/neuter options.  If you cannot have an outside cat, consider finding a local farmer who would like a “mouser”.
  • Create an ad on RescueMe.org to find people who are looking for a new pet online. Go to the website, select “Find a Home for an Animal”, and follow the instructions to create your ad.
  • Go to RescueShelter.com for a list of rescue organizations that you can call or email for assistance.  Go to the website to find a list of rescue groups in your selected area.
  • Ask your veterinarian if they know of anyone that would like your pet.  You can also call other veterinarians to ask if you can post a flyer in their lobby.  A list of veterinarians in Wayne County can be found on our website (www.wchs.org) under “Resources” and “Pet Care”.
  • Post your pet on Facebook:
  • You can post your pet on your Facebook page and the WCHS Facebook page.
  • Post your pet on Facebook Groups by using the search bar and typing “Re-home pet” and then the area where your pet is located (Example: Wayne County, Wooster, Ohio, etc.).
  • Contact the Wyandot County Humane Society at (419) 294-4477.  They will take any animal, at any time, regardless of the situation.  They are located at 9640 Co. Hwy. 330, Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.
  • The following organizations may be able to take your pet (call first):
  • Kitten Krazy – Ph# (330)591-4408
  • One of a Kind Pets, 1700 West Exchange St. Akron, OH 44313 – Ph# (330)865-6890

IMPORTANT!

* If you do not feel comfortable with the person interested in your pet, DO NOT let them have it.

* You have the right to ask for vet and personal references regarding their pet history and household.

* Consider asking for a small “re-homing fee” to ensure your animal is going to a responsible home.

NOTE: If you are a veterinary clinic servicing Wayne County and do not see your business on our list, please do not hesitate to contact us and request to be added.
